AFFORDABILITY + QUALITY

Our mission is to create affordable, stylish, and quality timepieces that motivate people to maximize their time. Many people think these characteristics can't co-exist. We beg to differ!

We "cut out the middle man" and utilize a direct-to-consumer strategy. This eliminates the traditional retail markup, making vũv Watches affordable. However, to us, affordability doesn't mean these watches are "cheap." We design all of our watches with the best materials available.

316L STAINLESS STEEL

316L Stainless steel is a grade of stainless steel that has extra-low carbon content, is extremely resistant to corrosion such as seawater or acidic liquids, and is magnetic resistant. With Molybdenum added, it makes 316L not only exceptionally strong, but also extremely corrosion-resistant.

vũv Watches has chosen 316L Stainless Steel for our front and back watch casings.

PHYSICAL VAPOR DEPOSITION

Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD)—also known as vacuum plating—is a vacuum coating process that produces a brilliant decorative and functional finish. High quality PVD utilizes a titanium nitride that provides an extremely durable coating. PVD coatings are more resistant to corrosion from sweat and regular wear.

316L Stainless Steel is already impervious, but PVD coating makes it even more durable and more corrosion resistant. This also helps prevent discoloring and fading on the watch. Overall, PVD allows the watch to have a longer lifetime.

vũv Watches use high quality vacuum plating technology for all our watches.

SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL GLASS

Sapphire Crystal is not actually a type of glass. Rather, it’s pure aluminum oxide that has been through a process of crystallization which makes it incredibly hard. It also makes it the most scratch resistant and most durable watch glass. This also means sapphire crystal is the best material to protect the watch dial against shock. Another benefit of sapphire crystal is that it brings clarity to dials, which means the visibility on sapphire glass watches is excellent.

vũv Watches has chosen Sapphire Crystal for our watch glass.

JAPANESE QUARTZ MOVEMENT

A watch’s “movement” refers to the part of the device that drives the hands on a watch face to make it tick. It’s often described as the “heart” of a watch, but perhaps “brain” would be more accurate. In addition to tracking the time of day, a watch’s movement powers features such as its calendar and chronograph. Furthermore, a quartz movement utilizes a battery as its primary power source.

The two main sources for quartz watches are Swiss and Japanese movements. When it comes to Swiss vs. Japanese, there are typically two schools of thought. Generally, the battle boils down to practicality and luxury. From a technical standpoint, there aren’t huge differences between the two, but the way in which they are crafted and what features receive the most emphasis by the watchmaker do vary. Overall, functionality, efficiency, precision and effectiveness are the focus for Japanese movements, while Swiss movements are more focused on the craftsmanship. The Japanese movement is mostly assembled by an animated robotics line. This process means less of a margin for human error, but it also results in a less detailed, more “raw” look.

vũv Watches has chosen to use Japanese movements for all of our watches. This decision is significant and a part of our brand and story. In memory of Saiko Richmond, our founder and owner’s grandmother who is Japanese, it is only fitting to honor her legacy by exclusively using Japanese movements.

WATER RESISTANT

On the back of most watches, you will probably see a number followed by the letters “ATM” (for example, 5ATM). ATM is an abbreviation of the word “atmosphere,” and an ATM rating is an international standard that shows you the number of "atmospheres" of pressure your device can handle when motionless under water. Basically, ATM indicates the waterproof level of a watch. As a general rule:

• 3ATM is splash resistant and suitable for wearing in the rain, hand washing, or other occasional contact with water.
• 5ATM is suitable for showers, baths, light/shallow swimming, fishing, and other outdoor activities.
•10ATM
is suitable for sports swimming and water sports and light snorkeling.

Typical resistance levels are 3, 5, 10, 25, 20, 30, and 50. However, there are also true deep diver’s watches that go all the way up to 1500 ATM. It is also important to understand that there are many variables to water pressure, such as jumping, diving, swimming, etc. Basically, any kind of movement rapidly increases water pressure. Therefore, it is better to be “safe than sorry” when wearing your watch for certain activities.

vũv Watches have been designed to have a minimum ATM rating of 5. This means all of our watches are suitable for wearing in the rain, hand washing, showers, baths, and other light water activities.
